The performer behind Diaper Dude
Russ Wilbanks brings two decades of haunt experience to a conversation about one of his most distinctive characters, Diaper Dude. His story is connected to Haunted Web in Memphis and explores how an unusual comic character finds a place in a haunted attraction.
Making people laugh takes work
Russ discusses the challenge of getting a laugh as well as getting a scare. The character depends on performance and audience reaction, with the actor making decisions about when to push a moment and when to back off.
Reading the guest
His Behind the Mask conversation looks at creating Diaper Dude and the lessons that come from years of encounters with visitors. It offers another view of haunt acting: surprise and comedy can be part of the experience, and the person inside the character has to stay attentive to the crowd.
